Title:Sudden Breakthrough
Lucas Samaras is an artist who was born in Kastoria, Greece. The most popular series of his is called "Photo Transformations," he was using Polaroid photographic film to create a different self-images. He usually distorted and mutilated his photos.
I was googling, and trying to find whether he was using Polaroid to take this photo, but I can't find the results. I like this photo very much. I like the way his comparision the background with his hand. I think "Breakthrough" is the best for this photo. When I first saw it, I felt a little heart broken, but I like this feeling. The background also looks like a painting to me.
yes, he is using Polaroid film. They used to make it in a way that you had a longer time to manipulate the images after shooting. Then they 'improved' their film so that it would harden quicker.
ReplyDeleteMy undergrad teacher worked in a similar way - check out his work:

I also get a sense of dismal emotion, because of the use of color and lighting. While the green gives me a sense of hope, the green symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility.
